Rainy Day Enrichment: Indoor Games That Actually Tire Them Out

Rain on the windows. Energy bouncing off the walls. If your dog is doing laps around the coffee table for the fourth time today, you're not alone — and you don't need a yard to fix it.

Mental exercise tires dogs out faster than you'd think. A good indoor enrichment session can leave them napping while you finally finish that cup of coffee.

Sniffari time

Hide treats around one room — under a rug edge, inside a folded blanket, behind a chair leg. Let your dog search while you supervise. Start easy, then make hiding spots trickier as they get the hang of it. Ten minutes of nose work equals a surprising amount of physical tired.

The muffin tin challenge

Place treats in a few cups of a muffin tin, cover all cups with tennis balls, and let your dog figure out which ones to move. Cheap, reusable, and weirdly addictive for food-motivated pups.

Teach something new

Rainy days are perfect for short training sessions. "Place," "touch," "spin" — pick one trick and work it for five minutes at a time. Breaks between sessions keep it fun. End on a success, always.

Rotate the toy box

Pull out two or three toys they've forgotten about and put the rest away. Novelty counts as enrichment. Swap the selection every few days and old toys feel new again.
